Serving students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade in Northern Rockbridge County.

Fairfield Elementary School provides quality educational opportunities that inspire a love of learning.

The community of Fairfield has had a school since the late 18th century. Students were housed around the community in several buildings including “town hall”, a storehouse and a tea room.

In 1907, a wooden frame building to serve as a school was erected near the present day school. The frame building was devastated by fire in 1924 and work on a new brick building began immediately. The new building opened in the fall of 1925, with two wings added in 1938.

In 1961, Fairfield and Brownsburg High Schools joined to form Rockbridge High School and Fairfield became an elementary school.  In 1975, the former Brownsburg High School became Brownsburg Middle School, 6th and 7th graders from the elementary school moved there.

In 1980, ground was broken for a new elementary school at Fairfield.  This building opened in the fall of 1981. This is the present day building.  The building was renovated with two wings added and opened in 2001.
